HIPPIES: INFLUENCE OF MUSIC ON ART AND FASHION

HIPPIES INFLUENCED FASHION AND THEREBY LIFESTYLES OF THE PEOPLES.

We all know about hippies. We may have had heard about them or seen some of the hippie styles using
social media and the internet. A short trip to the early 1960s shows us a dramatic change in the lifestyle
and fashion within a group of people in the United States.
There arise the neo-hippies. Hippies are members of the counterculture of The 1960s. They are now
called neo-hippies. Do you know where this name hippie comes from? Hippie comes from ‘hipsters’.
It means those who follow the recent trends and fashions, especially those regarded as being!
outside the culture stream.

They, hippies then started migrating and they found popularity in San Francisco. The hippie styles
affected the culture of that particular place and became popular in fashion too. Hippie culture
influenced literature, television and art. Hippie clothing turned out towards the youth market during
the middle of 1960.
Free love, recreational drugs, psychedelic music became prevalent during that time. All the men’s and
women started wearing loose relaxed garments by the influence of hippie style. I would like to share
some of my observations with you.

HIPPIES AND THEIR FASHION

Hippies usually wear colourful bright and brighter prints and patterns. They are part of the environment,
natural patterns, brighter colours, etc. Coloured longhairs, styled in such a way that hippies always stay
different from others.

I have something interesting too to share with you. They use organic foods. They are vegetarians; grain
bread is one of their specialties. They are mainly interested in wearing casual jeans and all the time.

Their culture involved a lot of activities that were not approved by the legal authorities even today. This led ending
up getting them arrested frequently. At the end of the 1960s, a lot of movies based on their lifestyles and culture
A lot of general people started following their style. Some of the examples are hippie heaven, humour,
and hooked generation.

HIPPIES SETTING TRENDS

By 1968, hippie influenced fashion was beginning to take off in the mainstream. The youths and
younger adults of San Francisco got inspired by them and we still are.
As I explained later from my observations a lot of music, film, art, and literature. Hippies were peoples
who advocated nonviolence and love.
There are some more interesting facts for us. We all have heard the popular phrase ‘makes love not war’ was given to us by
the hippies. Because of this, they were called “flower children”.

HIPPIE LIFESTYLE PRACTICES

Hippies often practiced open sexual relationships and lived in various types of family groups. They
commonly sought spiritual guidance from outside sources judo-Christian tradition, particularly
Buddhism and other eastern religions.
We all know about astrology, right? It was popular, and the period was often referred to as the “Age of
Aquarius“. As I have mentioned before, Hippies promoted drugs as part of their culture and fashion.
They promoted recreational use of hallucinogenic drugs, particularly marijuana and LSD in the so-called
head trips.

They justified the practice as a way of achieving consciousness. Hippie values and aesthetics were again
expressed in publicising musical hair, a celebration of the hippie lifestyle opened on broadways in 1968,
and by the film “Easy rider”.

YUPPIES INSPIRED BY THEM

Yuppies, have you ever heard about yuppies? Yeah, they are young urban professionals. These hippies
had given away to the new generation of young people. Who was intent on making careers themselves
in business and who came to be known as yuppies? Here is the end of the story, thus hippies now refer
to neo-hippies still in The United States. I hope every time you see new brighter colored clothes you
get reminded of their hippie culture.
