Sleep is an essentially important need for the good health. Sleep is as important as a healthy diet or daily exercise. Good sleep can help an individual to work with more concentration and also helps in greater productivity. Sleep enables individual to improve the capacity of problem solving skills as well as enhance memory. It also reduces the level of stress and make people lead a more calm and stable life. 

A healthy adult needs 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night to have a high quality functioning. Children and teens need even more sleep. The older adults have troublesome sleeps and so they can compensate this with daytime naps. It is not only the hours of sleep that is important but the quality of sleep. It is important to have deep sleep for better functioning of an individual. 

Circadian rhythm is the brain’s natural sleep-wake schedule. It dictates your natural bedtime and morning wakeup time and once you do it at the same time each day, your brain adapts to this schedule. 10 pm is said to be a perfect time to sleep as you could sleep for 7-8 hours and wake up by 5 or 6 am. During sleep, the body recovers. The blood pressure drops and the heart takes a break. The body releases hormones that can slow breathing, and relax other muscles in the body. 

The brain stores new information and gets rid of toxic wastes. 

There are certain effects of sleep deprivation such as moodiness and irritability, impaired brain activity, reduced creativity and problem solving skills, inability to cope with stress, premature skin aging, weak immune system, impaired motor skills etc. There are several health problems that are caused due to lack of sleep such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, 

Alzheimer’s and certain cancers as well. Good sleep can benefit an individual in many ways. It can increase the immunity of an individual. Sleep stabilizes the mind. If a person has prolonged lack of sleep then the individual go through depression and anxiety. Sleep also prevents two types of diabetes and wards off heart disease. Regular sleep disruptions can cause problem in conceiving by reducing secretion of reproductive hormones. 

One can improve one’s sleep gradually by increasing sleeping time in the weekend. The individual has to retire to sleep when he or she is tired and wake up in the morning without the help of an alarm. Stop depending on caffeine or energy drinks to boost up energy and concentration level as it disrupts the sleep patterns. 

So it is necessary to have good sleep to build oneself into a healthy human being.
